Discover the authentic flavor of Dominican cacao through a unique cultural and culinary experience in Altamira. Visit CHOCAL (Chocolate de la Cuenca de Altamira), a community association founded in 2008 and run by 30 women entrepreneurs dedicated to growing organic cacao and crafting artisanal chocolates, cacao liqueurs, and tropical wines.

During the tour, you’ll learn about the entire chocolate production process, from harvesting the cacao to the final product. You’ll learn about growing and harvesting cacao, cracking the pods, fermentation, drying, roasting, grinding, and the artisanal production of chocolate. Plus, you’ll enjoy tastings of chocolates and products made with tropical fruits from the region.
